Every journey begins with a story. Mine began with a desire to understand people—not simply by what we see on the surface, but by the experiences, histories, cultures, and relationships that shape who we become. Also to create communities where every person is seen, heard, and valued.

Growing up in Nairobi, Kenya, and later building my life in the United States gave me the opportunity to experience the world through different cultural lenses. These experiences shaped my passion for understanding people, strengthening relationships, and creating spaces for meaningful dialogue.
After more than 20 years in community education and advocacy, I saw that many of our greatest challenges were not caused by a lack of care, but by differences in communication, culture, expectations, and lived experience.
These experiences inspired Maisha Bora—a place where community knowledge, cultural humility, and human connection come together to build trust, foster shared learning, and create meaningful solutions. It is a space where communities and institutions can learn from one another and work together toward better outcomes.
Because sometimes, improving lives begins with listening to one story at a time
Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. When people are misunderstood, they often become disconnected from the very systems designed to support them. My work focuses on creating opportunities for genuine dialogue, strengthening relationships, and helping communities and organizations work together rather than apart.
Maisha Bora grew from years of listening, learning, working alongside communities, and seeing how easily people can become misunderstood when culture, language, and lived experience are left out of the conversation.
My academic journey in Ethnic Studies and Cultural Anthropology deepened my understanding of culture, identity, community, and the ways systems shape people's experiences. My studies in Women's Studies further strengthened my commitment to listening to perspectives that are too often overlooked.
For more than twenty years, my work has centered on community education, advocacy, cultural engagement, mediation, and supporting refugee and immigrant communities. These experiences have taught me that meaningful change begins with listening, understanding context, and creating spaces where people can meet one another with dignity.
This work is always evolving. My training has included Mental Health First Aid, Nurturing Parenting, Mediation and Restorative Justice. Each experience has contributed to my ability to approach community work with greater awareness, practical tools, and care.
Fluent in English, Kiswahili, and Luganda, with intermediate proficiency in Kikuyu and beginner Spanish. Language is more than communication—it is connection, belonging, and understanding.
Creativity has always been part of my journey. Through art, photography, storytelling, and creative expression, I explore identity, culture, resilience, and our shared humanity. These creative practices remind me that every person carries a story worth listening to and every community holds knowledge worth celebrating.
My artwork reflects the same values that guide Maisha Bora—curiosity, hope, dignity, and connection.
